The Halifax Chamber of Commerce is always looking for new ways to add value for its members. One way is to provide access to services often difficult for small businesses to arrange - like our very successful Group Insurance Plan.

We know there is a growing need for "identity security" today - making sure people are who they say they are and have the background they say they have. We believe it should be so easy to get a criminal records check done, small business owners will follow the lead of larger enterprises and add this step to their hiring process, even when not absolutely required, just as good business practice.

That's why your Chamber has teamed up with local service innovator TrueCheck Inc. to handle the whole thing online at a very reasonable cost. The TrueCheck system is used by hundreds of employers and volunteer agencies across Canada to order criminal records checks from police.

The system offers a range of features and options that have been developed to address a variety of hiring scenarios. As an employer or leader you can submit requests on behalf of individuals or have them apply online; you can check their ID documents or request ID verification online; and you can decide who pays for the applications - the individuals or your organization.

The entire system is electronic and streamlined with a detailed audit trail for every transaction. All requests are electronically sent to police and the results delivered back to you.

National Police Search

The police perform the standard search of the national criminal records repository available through the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) in Ottawa. CPIC is managed by the RCMP under the guidance of the National Police Service which is includes all Canadian law enforcement agencies. Only police can access CPIC.

Pricing

Getting set up on the TrueCheck system is fast, easy, and inexpensive. Your $100 one-time fee gives you unlimited access to the system to perform as many or as few checks as you need, and a portion of your fee goes to support the work of the Halifax Chamber.

The cost for each check submitted by an organization is $30 plus HST. The company can select whether or not the candidate pays for the check. The TrueCheck system can bill candidates directly.

Billing

A variety of billing options are available. As an organization you can choose to cover the cost of each check or have the TrueCheck system bill each candidate via credit card as part of the electronic screening process.
